Quicksticks Hockey Tournament

On Tuesday 2nd December, Mrs Tucker and Mrs Townsend took two year 6 teams to Becket Keys for a Quicksticks hockey tournament.  Quicksticks is specifically designed to introduce primary school age children to hockey.  It is 4-a-side, can be played on any surface, and uses a larger, lighter and safer ball. It is fun and fast.

15 teams entered the tournament and Long Ridings had some great games in the round robin stage with the team from 6E recording a 6 0 victory at one point and team 6RT recoding a similar 7 1 victory against a different school.

Both Long Ridings teams reached the semi final and were looking to win in order to play each other in the final.  Alas, team 6RT fell to Kelvedon by just two goals so team 6E had to face Kelvedon in the final, where they beat them 3 - 1.

To come joint 3rd (6RT) and 1st (6E) was a fantastic achievement for the new hockey players and both Mrs Townsend and Mrs Tucker were very proud of the way the children conducted themselves, supported each other and played all of their games in the right spirit.

Well done Long Ridings!
